Jonathan Mauricio and his wife, Lynae Lanfair, evacuated to Austin with their two daughters Madison Mauricio, 11, and Zoe Mauricio, 5, and had no idea what would happen. When they returned they found their house severely damaged, and it needed to be rebuilt.

CitiHope representative Austin Landes, Jack Clark from The US Wrestling Foundation and volunteers from the Marine Corps came together Thursday night at Veterans Memorial High School to present the family with keys to their newly renovated home prior to a dual wrestling meet. Olympic wrestling coach Dan Russell and Olympic medalist James Green spoke about the lessons of wrestling and the recovery in Rockport.

Russell said one of his biggest goals is to encourage young wrestlers to consider becoming first responders.

“Wrestlers are people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and do hard work where struggle is taking place,” Russell said. “We want to inspire people in the community to do the same.”
